Jackie Graven

Jackie Jean Ott Graven was born November 6, 1936 in Iowa City. She died May 1, at Dave’s Place in Keokuk, Iowa at the age of 78 years.

Jackie grew up and attended elementary school and middle school in Panora and Guthrie Center, Iowa.  She later moved to Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School.  While in high school she met Don.

In 1954, Jackie was united in marriage to Don Graven at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson.  They were the parents of eight children: Vicki, Kevin, Rodney, Danny, Julie, Janie, Jay, and Terry.  They made their home in Fort Dodge, Iowa before moving to Paton, Iowa.  They later moved to the country near Jefferson where they lived until 1960, when they moved to town.

Jackie stayed very busy working at Bordenaro’s, Headstart, SuperValu, and clerked at auctions.  Most of her time though, was spent at home raising and caring for her family.

Jackie enjoyed bowling, camping and being a Pink Lady.  She also enjoyed wintering in Texas with Don, where she liked playing cards.  She spent years attending school events for her children and grandchildren.  In recent years she loved being able to enjoy her great grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was at 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. May 3. Private family Interment at a later date. Honorary Bearers, Ryan Nation, Jason Nation, Ashley Martinez, Travis Graven, Kyle Graven, Cory Graven, Derek Graven, Jenna Nasheim, Airicka Scheuermann,  Lyndsie Thompson and the late Logan Scheuermann.

Jackie was preceded in death by her mother Meridene (Harris) Johnson, grandson Logan Scheuermann, and her step brothers:  Dean Ott, Paul Ott, and Estel Ott.  She is survived by her husband Don Graven of Jefferson; her children:  Vicki (Dan) Nation of Jefferson, Kevin (Meladee) Graven of Grand Junction, Rodney (Sherry) Graven of Jefferson, Danny Graven of Jefferson, Julie Graven of Farmington, Arkansas, Janie (Kent) Scheuermann of Jefferson, Jay Graven of Jefferson, and Terry Graven of Lawton, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two step-brothers: Gerald Ott of Carroll, and Don Ott of Jefferson; sister-in-law Jan Davis of Jefferson; other relatives; and friends.
