Ivan Crandell

A service for Ivan Gail Crandell “Ike” was held 1:00 p.m., Sept. 20 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sept. 19 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Another visitation started at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 20 until the time of service. Pastor Dan Emmert of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were:  Russell Laub, Lyle Heater, Alan Borgeson, Robert Borgeson, Michael Borgeson, LaVere Derry, Phil Lansing and Keith Devilbiss. Casket bearers were: Jerry Groves, Kurtis Laub, Kris Laub, Brock Lyons, Tod Contner and David Tipton. Marilynn Hoskinson was the organist and Brenda Roberts was the soloist. Congregational Entrance was Amazing Grace. Hymns chosen were How Great Thou Art and On Eagles Wings. Congregational Recessional was Just A Closer Walk With Thee. Interment took place at Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the church. Ivan Gail Crandell “Ike”, son of James Orville Crandell and Bertha Mae Minnick Crandell, was born March 23, 1925 in Grand Junction, Iowa and died Sept. 17 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. The family moved up to Dana, Iowa where he graduated from Dana High School. He was lovingly known as “Ike”. Ike and his father farmed Alvis Young near Spring Lake. On June 15, 1958 Ike married H. Joan “Jo” Elder. The couple were blessed with two children Ronald Wayne and Lisa Ann. He worked for Teeters as a truck driver, Art Colby’s Gas Station, and later for Road Construction as a truck driver. Ike enjoyed his life working on the farm. He raised Herdford Cattle and Berkshire Hogs. Ike loved the week of the County Fair and his children’s involvement in 4H. He retired in 1989 and helped Russ Laub on his farm. He was very proud of his yard and took great pride in his lawnmower and its up keep. Ike enjoyed his many friends at Sparky’s over a cup of coffee. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Junction,also a Hawkeye fan. Ike is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Denton Crandell (Twyla), Hubert Crandell (Marie), Donald Crandell, and sister Lois Tabor (Mason). He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Joan “Jo”, son Ronald Wayne and his wife Jody of Paris, ILL, daughter Lisa Friday and husband Matt of Marion, Iowa, four grandchildren: Maria Crandell, Preston Crandell, Garrett Friday and Alisa Friday. Nieces and Nephews: David Crandell (Jolene), Steve Crandell (Cheryl), Blaine Crandell (Diane), Jim Crandell (Joyce), Marilyn Peterson (John), Randy Tabor, and Cheryl Lilligraven (Mike), other relatives and many friends. Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Grand Junction Fire and Rescue or Community Center, may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson.
