Glennie Costello

Glennie Jean Costello, daughter of Benhardt and Marie (Ladehoff) Segebart, was born June 2, 1933, in Crawford County. Glennie passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on Feb. 12 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson at the age of 86.

Glennie grew up in Vail and graduated from Vail High School.  

On April 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Raymond Costello at St. Ann’s Church in Vail. They were the proud parents of eight children: Brian, Jeanne, Mary, David, Karen, Denise, Gail and Raymond Michael. 

In 1958, the family moved to Jefferson, where Glennie lived until present day.

Glennie worked for 30 years as a lab technician for Frigidaire Co. (Electrolux) before retiring on Jan. 2, 1996. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph Guild, Catholic Daughters, Peace and Justice Committee, and Women’s Council.

Glennie loved cooking, gardening, reading and was known for always sending gifts of food and other items home with friends and family.

Glennie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; her son, Raymond Michael; three sisters; two brothers; and her great-grandson, Justin.

She is survived by five daughters: Jeanne (John) Hoening, of Grand Junction; Mary Anne (Dennis) Bowser, of Ankeny; Karen (James) LeFleur, of Leon; Denise (Timothy Scheuermann) Costello, of Halbur; and Gail (Dean) Sayre, of Jefferson; two sons: Brian (Roseanne) Costello, of Jefferson; and David (Carol) Costello, of Monticello; 21 grandchildren:  Melanie Sayre, Nichole Sayre, Dean Sayre, Bernard Sayre, Andrew Sayre, Brenda Janssen, Breanna Scheuermann, Bailey Scheuermann, Melody Larsen, Dustin Costello, David Costello Jr., RaeAnn Costello, Amanda Hotchkiss, Teresa Rivera, Paul Costello, LeeAnne Costello Sorenson, Jennifer Costello Wika, Lisa Ann Myers, Daniel James Bowser, Kara Shivers and Sara Bovaird; 22 great-grandchildren; sister Linda West, of Fort Dodge; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.

Services were held Feb. 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson.

Interment was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church for local Masses.
