Dwight Mount

Dwight I. Mount was born on a farm south of Grand Junction on Feb. 13, 1922. He was the son of Virgil and Mary (Collogan) Mount.

Dwight was also known as “Red Light.”

He attended Grand Junction High School. He played baseball on the 1939 State Champion Baseball Team, and only lost in the state finals in 1940. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1940. 

Dwight enlisted in the United States Navy on Oct. 1, 1942. He served as a naval aviator and was honorably discharged Nov. 3, 1945.

As a longtime resident of the Grand Junction community, Dwight was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and he belonged to the American Legion.

Dwight died Dec. 16 at the Greene County Medical Center at the age of 98.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Warren, Merle and Wayne Mount. 

Survivors include his son, Ivan Mount, of Boone; and daughters: Diana Roberts, of Gardner, Kan.; Sandy Estlund, of Fort Dodge; and Barb Mount, of Spring Hill, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Dale Mount, of Boone; sister Genevieve Farmer, of Panora; other relatives and friends. 

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
