Dean Wolf

Dean William Wolf, was born February 9, 1933 to parents David and Pearl (Michael) Wolf at their home in Bristol Township. As a child, Dean enjoyed working on the family farm. On January 2, 1950, Dean was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Gene Casteel. To this union, were born four children: Michele, Rodney, Dennis and David.

In 1950, Dean joined the Army, serving during the Korean War in France and Germany from 1950 to 1953. After an honorable discharge, Dean returned to the family farm in Bristol Township where he farmed until 1976. He enjoyed playing adult softball with the Farlin team. He was a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed working with the kids.

In 1969, Dean and Barb started the Jefferson Cycle Center and ran the business for several years. In 1976, Dean and Barb relocated to New Orleans where Dean was employed as a Federal grain inspector. They later moved to Cedar Rapids, where he continued his work. Upon retirement in 1992, they purchased a farm North of Scranton and returned to Greene County to be closer to their family.

Dean’s pride and joy was his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In his spare time, he could be found working in the garden, reading Western books, and following his beloved Iowa Hawkeyes. Dean will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Dean passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on April 24, 2018, at Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit, at the age of 85.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and David; his sisters, Darlene and Mary; and brother, David. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Scranton; his children: Michele (Bob) Walker of Scranton, Rodney (Kaija) of Scranton, Dennis of Churdan and David (Becky) of Scranton; grandchildren: April (John) Janning, Brad Wolf, Brian Wolf, Melissa (Justin) Davis, Julie (Ross) Tuel, Christie (Mike) Pope, Megan (Shane) Panos, Mikko (Rebecca) Wolf, David (Megan Buman) Wolf and Timo Wolf; as well as fourteen (soon to be fifteen) great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alice Casteel of Panora.

Per Dean’s request, a graveside service was held on April 28, 2018 with a private family burial at Scranton Township Cemetery.
