Dean Robertson

Wilbur Dean Robertson, age 87, of rural Bayard, IA passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Perry Lutheran Home in Perry. The family is holding visitation and memorial services on Saturday October 21, 2023 at United Methodist Church, Bayard, Iowa. The family will visit with friends at the church from 9:30 - 10:25am Saturday, followed by the memorial service at 10:30am. A luncheon will follow. Dean was born on November 26, 1935, in Jefferson, IA and he was the son of Wilbur and Lucille (Fogle) Robertson. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1954. Dean was united in marriage to Sandra Young of Grand Junction on October 26, 1958, and immediately served in the U.S. Army in Aberdeen, MD where their first son was born. They returned to the family farm one mile south of Bayard where he and his father farmed, along with hauling registered cattle. Dean was very involved with raising and showing registered angus cattle. Dean was also a member of the Angus Association and local Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and their many summers spent in Minnesota, along with their friends. In later years, they enjoyed their custodial work and friends at Saylorville Campground. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Dean is survived by his wife Sandy of 64 years of rural Bayard; a son Curtis Robertson (Richard Miller) of Escondido, CA; a daughter Lori Hilgenberg (Steve) of Bayard; a son Jason Robertson (Lyn) of Springdale, AR; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Hilgenberg, Cameron Hilgenberg, Taylor Punt (Brady), Paiton Robertson, Sydney Strub (Neil), Garrett Robertson, Danielle Robertson, and Wyatt Robertson. Nine great-grandchildren, sister Jerilynn Denman (Pete Barrett) and nephew Chad Lucht (Melody) of Des Moines. Dean was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Lucille Robertson, his father and mother-in-law John and Marge Young, and brother Dennis Robertson.
