David Drew Florman
David Drew Florman, son of Lois Wistenberg and the late Dean Wistenberg, was born October 13, 1961 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and died June 16, 2018 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 56 years, eight months and three days. A celebration of life and memorial service was held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lakeside Shelter House at Spring Lake in Greene County. Words of comfort were shared by his niece, Crystal Florman and other family and friends.
Drew, as he was lovingly called, grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School. During three of his high school years, Drew worked for Greene County Conservation. He planned on becoming a park ranger. Tragically at the age of 18, he was involved in a car/train accident, suffering a severe brain injury. Drew never lost his witty, smart-alecky sarcasm or his intelligence. He spent the next 38 years keeping his family and friends entertained. Drew was an avid reader and cribbage player. He loved music, especially Queen, Kiss and AC/DC.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer in November of 2017. Drew wore his cancer diagnosis like a badge of honor. He taught all of us to be brave in adversity, to love in every moment and that there are things worse than death.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Dean Wistenberg and nephew, Caleb Anderson. Drew will be honored and forever loved by his momma Lois and the late Dean Wistenberg; his sisters: Lisa Anderson (Troy) of Perry, Shon Blake (Larry) of Jefferson, Mary Ellen Norman of Missouri Valley, Iowa and Kim Luther (Ben) of Urbandale; brother, Tony Florman (Patti) of Mason City; many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be sent in his name to Hastings Funeral Home, Box 204, Perry, Iowa 50220.
