Darlene Miller

Darlene Miller, the daughter of Ray Eugene and Dorothy (Warren) Carrick, was born January 2, 1922 at Bayard, Iowa and left this life November 24, 2013 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 91 years, 10 months and 22 days.
Darlene attended and graduated from the Bayard High School in 1939. On July 29, 1941, Darlene Carrick was united in marriage to Harold Glen Miller at the Scranton Friends Church north of Scranton. They celebrated 71 years together in 2012. Darlene and Harold raised a family and were blessed with four children; LeRoy, Deloris, Duane and Diane. When Harold and Darlene were first married and farming, they picked 79 acres of corn by hand. Darlene worked alongside Harold in the fields, took dinners and lunches to the field and in her spare time, loved to bake and embroider. She and Harold enjoyed attending the sporting events of their children and grandchildren.  She especially enjoyed serving as the scorekeeper for horse shoe tournaments in which Harold competed. They retired from farming and moved into Churdan where they lived until they moved to the Garden Apartments in Jefferson. Harold passed away July 5, 2013.
Darlene was an active member of the Churdan United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Darlene is survived by her four children; LeRoy (Marlene) Miller of Churdan, Deloris (Elmer) St. Clair of Des Moines, Duane Miller of Churdan and Diane (Kevin) Howe of Johnston, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Darwin (Peggy) Carrick of Council Bluffs, a sister, Donna Rae (Dale) Lauritson of Webster City and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Carrick of Greenfield  . Those who preceded her in death were her parents, husband and a brother, Donald Carrick in November of 1998.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 27,  2013, at 10:30 A.M. at the Churdan United Methodist Church with Rev. David Arulnathan officiating. Burial was made in the Highland Cemetery in Churdan. Musical selections at the service were sung by the congregation and soloist, Kenneth Morlan and accompanied by organist, Janice Tilley.
Serving as casket bearers were Darlene’s grandsons; Mark Miller, Jeff Miller, David Miller, Kourtney Miller, Nicholas Miller, Kyle Miller and Jon St. Clair. Serving as honorary casket bearers were her granddaughters; Jodi Van Bell, Tracy Funke, Kate Howe and Kristen Howe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be given to the Churdan United Methodist Church or the Greene County Medical Foundation.    
The Brown Funeral Home of Churdan was in charge of arrangements.
