Cris Spaulding

Dwight Cris Spaulding, known to his family and friends just as “Cris,” was born December 26, 1950 to James C. and Nadine (Stewart) Spaulding at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson and departed this life December 3, 2016 at his home in Jefferson. He lived his life to the age of 65 years, 11 months and 7 days.

Cris attended school in Scranton. Cris was married to Linda Curtis of Churdan from 1971 to 1989. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in Churdan and Cris worked as an over-the-road semi truck driver, traveling throughout the country.

On April 6, 1990, Cris was married to Tammy Lynn Cairns at the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson. They made their home in Jefferson and Cris worked for the Greene County Secondary Roads Maintenance for 10 years. Due to health problems, Cris was forced to retire in 2005.   

Cris loved to fish, garden, mow his lawn and spend time with his loving, beautiful wife, Tammy. He was a very out spoken person and loved to speak his mind. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up. Cris was the hard walled man up front, but very soft on the inside. He was a man that would give you anything that he possibly could give.

Cris is survived by his wife, Tamm;, three children: Christy Lynn Spaulding and her significant other, Travis Venticher, of Churdan, Thomas (Jackie) Spaulding of Churdan, and Mary (Joel) Monthei of Jefferson; twelve grandchildren: Zackary Spaulding, Nathaniel Byerly, Caleb Byerly (Jessica), Joshua  Byerly, Skylar Spaulding, Madyson Dick, Justin Dick, Gabriel Monthei, Justice Davis, Carly Venteicher, Camdyn Byerly and Lathan Davis; two brothers, Jerry (Ruth) Spaulding of Jefferson and Frank (Kelly) Spaulding of Des Moines; and three sisters: Eva Mae Gustoff of Scranton, Rose Ann Huffman of Jefferson and Maude Ganoe of Scranton. Those who preceded him in death were his parents, three brothers: Bill, Norman and Jimmy Spaulding and four sisters: Iola Bonnette, Lavola Bailey, Mary Lou Spaulding and Janet Spaulding.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson with Pastor Tom Hinote officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan. Three of Cris’s favorite songs “Spirit in the Sky,” “Unchained Melody” and “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove” were played.
