Cora Mae Bennink

Cora Mae Bennink, 102, of Jefferson, formerly of the Herndon area, was called to meet her Lord on Jan. 15 while at the Long Term Care Unit of the Greene County Medical Center.

Cora was born to Jacob and Jana (Droppers) van der Werff on November 19, 1911 in rural Douglas County, South Dakota.

On February 3, 1934 she married Lawrence Bennink and the couple moved to Guthrie County.  After several moves, the couple moved to a farm in the Herndon area where they farmed until retiring and moving to Jefferson.  While in the Herndon area, Cora was active in the area garden clubs, the Herndon Methodist Church, and later the Jamaica Union Church.  She loved her gardening, especially the flower gardens.

Cora is survived by two sons: Duane Bennink (Judy) of Ames and Lowell Bennink (Sharon) of Larrabee; a daughter Marilyn Venteicher (Francis) of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; fifteen great- grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cora was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lawrence; infant son Roland; brothers: Bert, Henry and Frank; sisters: Jeanette Bennink (Arthur) and Anna Kiel (Harvey); and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 19 at Slininger Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was at 1 p.m. Jan 19 at the Funeral Home. Interment was in the Richland Township Cemetery in Guthrie County. Words of comfort were by Rev. Julie Poulsen. Soloist & pianist was Danille Curtis. Musical selections were The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden.

Honorary bearers were Rob Norton, Kathy Stenson, Brian Wind and David Bennink. Casket bearers were Curtis Bennink, Craig Bennink, Karen Ratliff, Lisa Wind, Laura Norton and Annette Gallagher.
