Colleen Kay Mackey

Colleen Kay Mackey, 77, of Churdan, IA passed away peacefully November 22, 2023 at Accura Healthcare of Carroll after a short battle of an infection in her spine. Colleen was born on July 7, 1946 in Pierson, IA to Leonard and Bonnie Florke. Colleen attended school and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School. She was active in 4-H, Basketball and Band. After graduating, she attended Morningside College in Sioux City. In 1968, Colleen moved to Churdan where she lived for fifty-five years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she played the organ as well as Lanesboro Methodist Church. She became a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan prior to being united in marriage to Richard Mackey in 1972. They were blessed with three children: Todd, Shawn and Heather. Even after their divorce, they remained friends until Dick’s passing in 2020. Colleen worked as a secretary most of her life with her last position working for Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, IA. Colleen had a passion for playing the organ, reading, and watching her children play sports. She was an avid Hawkeye and Chiefs fan as well. Colleen is survived by her three children, Todd (Michelle) Mackey of Ankeny, Shawn (Michelle) Mackey of Ankeny and Heather Steimel of Churdan; seven grandchildren: Mackenzie, Carson, Mikala, Mikena, Mya, Tessa and Kinnick; her mother, Bonnie Florke of Colo; her three siblings: Gary (Mary) Florke of Marine on St. Croix, MN, Robin Klatt of Colo, Kim (Carole Hall) Florke of Mingo, IA; one niece, Anna (John) Weigelt of Polk City, IA and great-nephew Bennett; Aunt Marvel (Larry) Callen of Jefferson, IA and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Florke and brother Roger Dean Florke. Pastor Dennis Martens of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, presided at a private family service, with burial in Highland Township Cemetery, Churdan.
