Billie Wind

Billie Wind, 86, of Jefferson died Friday, November 2, 2018. 

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 6 at Gospel Open Bible Church in Jefferson with Pastor Chad Cummings officiating. Honorary bearers were Chris Dzuris, Kelly Dzuris, Karla Dzuris, Chelsea Hovey, Brody Andersen, Tyler McMullen, Walker McMullen, Fr. Jeremy Wind, Marieta Boberg, Chris Wind and all her great grandchildren. Gary West was the soloist, accompanied by Valeria West. Interment was in the Greenbrier Township Cemetery in Greene County, Iowa. Visitation with the family was Monday, November 5 at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson from 5 to 7 p.m.

Billie Jean Wind, daughter of Peter and Bessie Anfinson, was born April 24, 1932 in Perry, Iowa. She was the sixth of nine children born into a very close, loving family. She attended Perry schools, graduating with the class of 1950.

In 1951, Billie was married to Melvin Dzuris. They had two children, Melvin Douglas and Diane Marie. In 1953, they moved to the Greenbrier area where they were involved with the Greenbrier Methodist Church and the community. After Melvin’s untimely death in 1972 in a truck accident in Montana, Billie moved into Jefferson.

In 1983, Billie was united in marriage to Harry Lightfoot of Paton, Iowa. After only 13 months, Harry passed away of a sudden heart attack. Billie moved back to Jefferson and continued to work at Greene County Medical Center where she was employed for 22 years.

In 1994, Billie married John Wind and they made their home in Jefferson. John passed away in 1998. Billie continued to live in Jefferson where her favorite pastime was watching her grandchildren grow up and attending as many activities of theirs as she could. She loved spending time with each of them. Billie was a member of Gospel Open Bible Church. She enjoyed playing games with her family and friends, listening to gospel music, cheering for the Hawkeyes, making kumla and baking Christmas cookies every year. Billie’s home was always open to family and friends. She always made sure everyone was well fed and well loved.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands; mother, Bessie; father, Peter; four sisters: Dorothy, Beverly, Bonnie and Betty; four brothers: Gerald, Don, Bob and Dick; and son, Douglas.

Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Diane (Alan) Andersen and their children Chelsea (Nick) Hovey and Brody; Doug’s children, Chris (Mindy), Kelly (Liesl) and Karla; great-grandchildren:  Madeline, Mason, Makenna, Aurora, Mila, Kinley, Mariah, Gavin and Emmalyn; step-son, Tom (Sue) Wind and their children Jeremy, Marieta (Pat) and Chris; step-daughter, Janet (Mike) Dewan and children, Tyler and Walker; and sisters-in-law, Karen Anfinson of Springfield, Mo., Sharon Anfinson of Boise, Idaho, Marilyn Anfinson of Waukee and Donna Dzuris of Hubbard, Neb. Billie also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
