Betty Grundon
Betty Grundon, long-time resident of Grand Junction, IA, died March 20, 2024 at the age of 98 years. Funeral services were held at 11:00am Monday, March 25, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. Pastor Angie Cunigan officiated. Interment was in the Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction. Casket bearers were Layne Carstens, Brett Grundon, Mike Cunningham, John Russell, Ebyn Carstens, and Drake Grundon. On April 12, 1925, William Claude Dodd and Vivian Adele (Dake) Dodd welcomed their first child at their home in Boone, Iowa, Betty Jean. She was joined over the years by six siblings; Phyllis, June, Clifton, Donald, Kenneth, and Douglas. Betty graduated from Boone High School and then married Gerald Everett Grundon in 1951. Upon Gerald’s honorable discharge from the United States Army, he and Betty moved to Grand Junction, Iowa where they would spend the rest of their lives together with their three sons, John, Bruce and Gary. Betty spent her time as a housewife and babysat for various children in the community. She loved to cook and tend her garden and she was always willing to pass along her vast knowledge to the people around her. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and dedicated her time to them whenever she could. She taught them how to be self-sufficient by growing food at home, canning and cooking from scratch. She was able to pass on her experience of growing up frugally. Betty Jean Dodd Grundon, 98, passed away on March 20, 2024 at Accura Healthcare in Ogden, Iowa from complications with influenza. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; her son, John; siblings: Clifton (and his wife, Nancy) Dodd, Phyliss (and her husband, Lyle) Clopton, June (and her husband, Dean) Miller, Douglas (and his wife, Ruth) Dodd; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Dodd. She is survived by her sons: Bruce Grundon of Grand Junction, and Gary Grundon of Jefferson; her siblings: Donald (and his wife, Karen) Dodd of Boone, and Kenneth Dodd of Boone; three grandchildren: Brett (Shayla Stephenson) Grundon, Jeri (Mike) Cunningham, and Amy (Jeff) Grundon-Gochee, 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
