Beryl Johnson

Beryl Johnson, 90, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care facility after a brief illness.

Beryl was born April 4, 1927 in Ralston, Iowa to Gerald and Ruth (Mathias) Johnson. He grew up in Ralston and later moved to Scranton where he graduated from Scranton High School and met his future wife, Jean Johnson. Married for 67 years, Jean passed away January 4, 2015.

A committed John Deere man, he was a life-long farmer who truly loved the land. He farmed for more than 60 years. During those years he also worked numerous part-time jobs to care for his family.

In later years, Beryl and Jean enjoyed traveling. They especially enjoyed the Peoples and Home State banks bus trips. Beryl was a diehard Hawkeye fan and he and Jean enjoyed attending bowl games.

Beryl is survived by daughters: Kathy (Dick) Forcht of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Steve) Karber of Jefferson, Becky (Jim) Buxton of Iowa City, Penny (George) Hogan of Belton, Texas and daughter-in-law, Sally Johnson of Colesburg, Iowa. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Dick (Pat) Johnson of Alta, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; infant brother; sister; son, Joe in 2011; and wife, Jean in 2015.

The family will be holding a private family memorial service and burial for Beryl and Jean. A public Celebration of Life for Beryl and Jean will be held Saturday, January 20th at the Scranton Community Center from 1 to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity/foundation of your choice.
