Barbara Gene Wolf was born May 10, 1933 to parents Pearlie (Patterson) and Burley Casteel at home in Chariton, Iowa. She attended school in Grand Junction where she enjoyed playing girls six on six basketball and playing the clarinet. Barbara was united in marriage to Dean William Wolf on January 2, 1950. From this union a daughter and three sons were born.
After Dean returned from the Army in 1953, they returned to Greene County to farm for many years. Barbara helped with the farm and livestock operation and always had a large garden and did a lot of canning. They also lived in New Orleans and Cedar Rapids where Dean was a federal grain inspector. After their retirement in 1992, they purchased a farm north of Scranton to be closer to family.
Barbara loved being with family, watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. She was always available to help in any way and was a great mentor, teaching many to cook and garden. She was a great cook and loved cooking for family and friends and was well known for her field cake and cinnamon rolls.
Barbara passed away peacefully June 12, 2018 at Greene County Medical Center with family by her side. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Dean; parents, Burley and Pearlie Casteel; sisters, Marguerite (Hobart) Hall and Evelyn (Thomas) Campbell; and brothers: Thomas, Michael (Carol) and Ross (Alice) Casteel.
