Arletta Tasler

Arletta Rose Royce Tasler, 75, passed away at the McAllen Heart Hospital, McAllen, Texas.  A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish Center, Jefferson on Apr. 3 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served. Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Arletta had a large family of four brothers, three sisters, and her mother Stella Bell Royce. As a girl growing up on a Jefferson farm she was always riding horses and herding cattle. Right out of high school Arletta met and married Walter Edward Tasler, “Shorty”, who was directly home from the Korean War. They were married on Sept. 21, 1956 and moved onto and farmed the Tasler farmstead for 47 years.

Short and Lete immediately began building their family of eight children: Mark, Kevin, Michelle, Maria, NiCole, Leann, Richard, Ryan and #9 Jeremy.  Their work lives started at the Gulf Station in Jefferson, on Highway 4 for a short time. Many of you may remember the colorful Tasler Towing Wreckers on the roads and at the Greene County races. “Insert hand wave and air horn here”. Walt and Arletta bought a home in McAllen, Texas, where they wintered for 21 years where they made many life-long friends and relationships.

Lete, known as Mom to so many relatives and non-relatives, had numerous LOVES. Besides her husband, kids, and their families, she also enjoyed fishing, flying  their airplane, family go-cart and car racing, gambling- including beating her own kids at cribbage regularly, watching cage fighting and cheering on many of her own family members in the cage, betting on Nascar and football, doing crosswords and Facebooking. Her love of animals cannot be measured. She was always protected and happiest when surrounded by her four-legged and two-legged family, in later years- Edd, Read, and Edd Jr.

Arletta went out kicking and fighting until the end and was desperately loved by all who knew her.  She died of ovarian cancer on Mar. 10 at 6:28 a.m. “The Queen” is now with the Lord our God at peaceful rest.

Arletta is survived by her husband Walter, their eight children: Mark, Kevin, Michelle, Maria, NiCole, Leann, Richard and Ryan, as well as 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with at least one more on the way.
