Allen Smith

Services for Allen George Smith were held Feb. 18 at the Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, with visitation before the service.

Eulogists were Allen’s sisters: Diana Webb, Julie Smith and Billi Smith.

Honorary casket bearers were Schuyler Nail, William Weiss, Spencer Kirk, Slater Kirk, Scott O’Neal, Tom Young, Samantha Garcia and Sealeana Smith.

Recorded music selected was “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” “Crazy Train,” “I Am Coming Home” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.”

Military honors were done by the United States Army Detail from Camp Dodge.

Interment will take place at a later date at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden.

Following the service was a luncheon in the Hastings Funeral Home lounge.

Allen George Smith, son of William Joseph Smith and Beverly Jean Shute Smith, was born on Aug. 19, 1966, in Aurora, Ill., and died Feb. 14 at the Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 53.

Allen and his family moved to Perry when he was 2. He graduated from Perry High School in 1984. 

Allen enlisted in the United States Army in February 1985 and was stationed in South Korea until his honorable discharge in 1990.

Allen worked at IBP from 1990 until 1995, and Sinclair Gas Station in 1997.

He enjoyed taking his nieces and nephews fishing, tinkering and collecting old beer cans. Allen also liked gambling and even won the lottery two times. 

He was preceded in death by his stillborn daughter, Cassidy Ann Treft; father William “Bill” Smith; sister Gina Best; and brother William “Gib” Smith. 

Allen is survived by his son, Alex Treft, of Perry; mother Beverly Smith, of Enid, Okla.; sisters Diana Webb (James) and Julie Smith (Thomas Diggs), both of Enid; and Billi Smith (Lawrence “Shannon” O’Neal), of Grand Junction; nieces and nephews: Bridgette Best, of Iola, Kan.; Brittany (Mark) Swank, of Pittsburg, Kan.; Samantha (Isidro) Garcia, of Des Moines; Schuyler (Tama) Nail, of Watertown, N.Y.; William (Lizzy) Weiss, of Enid; Sealeana Smith, Spencer Kirk, Slater Kirk and Scott O’Neal, all of Grand Junction; other relatives and many friends.

Memorials in Allen’s name may be sent to Hastings Funeral Home, Box 204, Perry, IA.
