Agatha Hyland

Agatha Marie Hyland, daughter of Anton Beschorner and Marie Hornick Beschorner, was born Dec. 18, 1913 in Greene County. Agatha died April 2, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Marshalltown, at the age of 101 years.

Agatha grew up in Churdan, and later graduated from Rianard High School in 1931. After high school, Agatha was united in marriage to George Hyland on Jan. 6, 1943 at St. Boniface Cathedral in San Francisco, Calif. They were the parents of two children: Patrick and Twylla. In 1945, the family moved to Churdan. In 1948, they moved to Jefferson and then later to Perry as George’s job had them move. For a short period of time, Agatha also worked at a local fabric store in Perry as well as being a homemaker. After retirement, George and Agatha moved back to Jefferson in 1990.

Agatha and George loved to travel and spend time with family. Agatha was a member of the Catholic Churches in the towns she lived in, Catholic Daughters of America, and Loyal Order of Moose Auxiliary.

Mass of the Resurrection April 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment is at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Churdan.

Agatha was preceded in death by her parents Anton and Marie Beschorner, her husband George in 1993, brother Erwin (Mercedes) Beschorner, sister Magdalene (Timothy) Knoell, son-in-law Wayne Parmenter, daughter-in-law JoEllen Hyland, and many other relatives and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Twylla Parmenter of Tama; her son Patrick Hyland of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
