Create a Healthcare Legacy by Gifting Grain to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation
Special to the Jefferson Herald
Over the past several years, our area grain producers have weathered several challenges. However, these hard working men and women maintain their strength, tenacity and positivity, looking ahead to a bright future for their families and their operations.
“Much like our producers, healthcare services have been impacted by many challenges since the outbreak of COVID in 2020,” said Greene County Medical Center Foundation Director, Nancy Houska. “We have been able to work past the obstacles faced during those difficult years, but as a not-for-profit organization, the medical center continues to rely on the generosity of our community members to provide the highest-quality services, conveniences and programs our families need.”
The Foundation is offering farmers the opportunity to create a legacy for healthcare that will live on for years to come, while also creating a more advantageous tax situation for their operations. A gift of grain to the Greene County Medical Center is one way to do both.
“Producers simply deliver grain from this year or the past year’s harvest to the elevator of their choice in the Foundation’s name,” Houska explained. “There is no tax on the income from that delivery, but the input costs for growing of the crop can still be deducted. This is a win/win situation for all as the benefit of this gift brings healthcare services to the entire region.”
Those donating $1,000 or more will also have their names added to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation’s recognition wall.
Producers are encouraged to explore the gift of grain option with their tax professional. More information is available at gcmchealth.com/foundation/harvest-a-legacy-for-healthcare. Questions can be directed to Houska at 515-386- 0108 or by email at nancy.houska@gcmchealth.com.
