Diocese launches Cash Raffle with $20,000 top prize for schools
Special to the Jefferson Herald
Tickets are now on sale for the Cash Raffle to benefit Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sioux City. The $100 raffle tickets will be sold this fall to fund thousands of dollars in grants for each of the 15 school systems.
Five cash prizes that will be drawn November 27, with the drawing livestreamed on the Diocese of Sioux City Facebook page. The top prize is $20,000, with two $10,000 prizes and two $5,000 prizes. Each Catholic school and the diocesan chancery office in Sioux City have tickets available for purchase, or supporters can purchase a ticket at scdiocese.org/raffle.
Last year’s diocesan-wide raffle for schools offered a vehicle as the top prize. John Schmitz, diocesan director of stewardship and development, explained the Catholic Schools Foundation board of directors voted to offer a cash raffle for the 2024 raffle as cash is a prize that all participants coule relate to and use.
He stressed that the fund raised from the raffle return directly back to the schools through the Catholic Schools Foundation enhancement grant program. Schools receive funding from the raffle for numerous items including:
- Student mental health and wellness
- Professional development opportunities for educators and administrators
- Technology support
- Inclusive education
- Marketing and recruitment support
- Safe environment efforts
Supporters are encouraged to contact their local Catholic school to purchase a $100 Cash Raffle ticket. For more information or to purchase online, go to scdiocese.org/raffle.
