Local firefighters last week got to hack away at a house slated for demolition.
Firefighters on July 16 used the dilapidated house at 507 S. Locust St. in Jefferson to get in a few hours of training with axes and saws.
Firefighter Jack Williams demonstrates the best way to cut through siding using the K12 fire/rescue saw, which was purchased in recent years using a grant from the Greene County Community Foundation and donations from Jefferson residents.
The Jefferson Fire Department is hoping to make use of a series of vacant homes scheduled by the city for demolition.
“We don’t get that opportunity too often,” said Williams, a longtime volunteer firefighter and chief deputy at the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
