Saving Jefferson is as easy as scanning this
Staff report
No pressure or anything — but the future of downtown Jefferson is now in your hands.
Jefferson Matters: Main Street has kicked off its study to explore what the future holds for the historic Square, and help is needed by completing a survey.
A state report prepared in January for Jefferson Matters: Main Street revealed that downtown Jefferson lost an estimated $32.4 million in 2014 to other towns in retail and dining because of a lack of offerings.
For people within a 20-minute drive of the Square — an area stretching west to Ralston, east to Beaver, south to Yale and north to Iowa Highway 175 — the report showed that retailers outside of downtown Jefferson are largely fulfilling their shopping and dining demands.
So, what are your thoughts on downtown Jefferson — and what do you want to see downtown?
A team of volunteers soon will hand out surveys to shoppers and business owners alike to gather data to fine-tune development and marketing strategies for downtown Jefferson.
An online version of the survey can be found at surveymonkey.com/r/Jefferson_Consumer_Online.
Or just scan the QR code printed on this page with a smartphone to take the survey.
The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete.
It’s hoped the results will provide an assessment of the current business environment and a means of identifying future trends.
