Salvation Army begins local Red Kettle drive Dec. 3

Special to the Jefferson Herald

The Salvation Army service unit in Greene County will conduct this year’s Red Kettle campaign on Friday evenings and Saturdays at two locations in Greene County for three weekends starting Dec. 3. In addition, there will be bell ringers at Fareway and Hy-Vee on the evenings of Dec. 20-22.

Ninety percent of the money received in Greene County will be spent in Greene County to help families and individuals needing assistance with essential human needs.

If money is sent directly to the Salvation Army, there is no 90 percent retention for Greene County. The amount raised locally in 2021 was $6,313. Last fiscal year, the local Salvation Army unit helped many families or individuals with their rent, utilities, transportation and other needs. The goal for this year’s campaign of $7,000 would allow the local unit to serve Greene County residents with a similar budget.

The regional Salvation Army officials in Omaha have, at times, also assisted with needs beyond the funds raised in Greene County when there is a fire or other disaster in the region.

For questions or interest in volunteering as a bell ringer, call Greene County Salvation Army coordinator, Vern Foje at 402-699-3764. In addition to filling the Red Kettles, donors may make deposits at Home State bank any time of the year.
