Recycling saved!

With the demise of Genesis Development, most of Greene County was left wondering where recyclables would go.

A solution has been found — West Central Iowa Solid Waste in Carroll will begin taking the city of Jefferson’s recyclables on Nov. 1, according to city councilman Matt Wetrich.

What you need to know:

• Curbside recycling in Jefferson will transition without interruption next week, except for residents in the northeast part of town.

That’s only because, effective Oct. 30, their garbage day is moving from Thursdays to Wednesdays.

Jefferson’s new automated trash truck has the capability to pick up two sections on the same day, said Dave Morlan, public works director.

Curbside recycling will still be done on regular garbage days.

• Recycling dropoff bins will be moved by Oct. 31 to Cedar and Perry streets, near Jefferson’s water plant.

• Glass jars and bottles that have been rinsed will be accepted for recycling again. Pop and beer boxes will now be recyclable as well.

• The city of Jefferson, for the time being, will still pick up curbside recycling in all other Greene County towns except Scranton.
