The Greene County Community School District board of education approved a change order at its June 17 meeting for a decrease of $72,447 on the high school/career academy construction project.
Most of the decrease was related to the amount estimated for excavation.
A grand opening or open house for the new high school/career academy was mentioned, and a possible board tour as a work session in August.
The board also approved several personnel changes, accepting resignations from middle school football coach Chad Black, half-time middle school technology lead teacher, and middle school wrestling coach Shawn Scheuermann.
Hirings approved were Lita Bauer as school nurse and Anne Phillips as middle school special education teacher.
The board accepted a contract change for Bob Allen from contracted assistant varsity football coach to volunteer status.
The board approved the 2020-21 contract with 21st Century Rehab, affiliated with the Greene County Medical Center, for sports medicine coverage for $7,000.
The board approved the sale of the 2019-20 student construction house at 202 Briarwood Bend to Caden and Lindsey Duncan. Selling price was $241,000, and the Duncans will provide their own concrete and lawn finishing.
Technology purchases of Chromebooks, Chromebook Tabs and desktop computers for the new high school/career academy were approved, totaling $141,451.
The board approved a contract with the IMEG company for commissioning services, to calibrate and coordinate technology equipment at the new high school/career academy.
Superintendent Tim Christensen discussed the district’s “Return to Learn” plan, which is due to the state by July 1. He also reported that summer school will be held for three weeks beginning July 20.
Christensen recommended returning to live board meetings with an electronic access option in July, and holding a work session prior to the regular meeting to discuss the current middle school building and its possible future uses.
Volunteers are needed to install elementary playground equipment July 14 and 15.
The school board meets regularly the third Wednesday of most months at 5:15 p.m. in the administrative building conference room in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Jefferson.
