Bailey Mount

Mount named new youth librarian at Jefferson Library

Special to the Jefferson Herald

The Jefferson Public Library is pleased to introduce Bailey Mount as the new youth services librarian.

Mount began working at the Jefferson Public Library in April 2021 as a part-time library assistant in the youth department. In her new position, Mount will be in charge of planning educational and recreational programs for children from infancy through high school, including weekly story times, summer reading programs, daycare and elementary school class visits, and homeschool sessions. She will also continue to work with a teen advisory board to establish programs and events for teen patrons. She will now manage the collection of books and other materials including movies, games, Playaways, graphic novels, and puppets as well as continue to stimulate interest in library’s activity areas like the Creative Learning Center, Innovation Station, AWE computers and gaming stations. Mount will work with parents, teachers, volunteers, local organizations and businesses, schools and other Greene County libraries to plan and promote literacy and learning programs for infants, children, and teens throughout the year.

Mount has a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and public relations with a minor in creative writing. At her previous place of residency in Long Beach, California, she was employed at the Long Beach Museum of Art and the Aquarium of the Pacific, positions that enabled her to serve not only children, but her community as a whole.

“Bailey’s personality, energy, creativity, and technical skills will shine in this position,” Library director Jane Millard said.

Mount will take continuing education courses through the State Library of Iowa’s endorsement program. She will also attend conferences and meetings where she will meet and work with other youth services librarians around Iowa and learn how to continue serving Greene County’s youth in a relevant and engaging way. Mount is elated to lead the programs and services provided by the library to youth of all ages, adding that “interacting with kids never feels like work. I leave every day excited for what comes next.”

The public is invited to stop in at the Jefferson Public Library to meet Mount and welcome her to her new position and the community.
