McFarland unveils new clinic plans

Representatives of McFarland Clinic and Hy-Vee treated local residents Friday morning to a free breakfast — and to officially unveil a new partnership.

Renderings were made available for public viewing at the Greene County Community Center of McFarland’s new Jefferson office, which will be attached to the east side of the Hy-Vee under construction not far from the Square on Washington Street.

The new McFarland Clinic will be about 8,300 square feet — larger than McFarland’s current space at the Greene County Medical Center — and feature two entrances when it opens in June.

One will be accessible from the south side of the clinic.

The other will conveniently open right into Hy-Vee —  specifically, the pharmacy.

“Hy-Vee is a company that believes in making lives easier, happier and healthier,” said Lori Subbert, who will manage the 32,000-square-foot Hy-Vee under construction.

As a company, Subbert said Friday, Hy-Vee wants to begin attaching clinics to its stores. Jefferson will be among the company’s first.

The new Hy-Vee is on schedule, Subbert said, and is expected to open as early as late February.

In June, the Greene County Medical Center terminated McFarland’s lease, effective June 19, 2015, to clear the way for UnityPoint Health-Des Moines to open a new family medicine clinic in Jefferson.

“There was never any doubt that McFarland would be leaving the area,” Dr. James Gerdes said Friday.
