A little bit country, a little bit rock
Tickets went on sale Saturday for a new slate of concerts at Wild Rose Jefferson, including a show by a country star who needs but one name: Wynonna.
Wynonna and her band, the Big Noise, will bring “A Wynonna & The Big Noise Christmas” to local fans at 8 p.m. Dec. 15.
The casino also announced an 8 p.m. Jan. 20 show by female rock icon Lita Ford.
Wynonna has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide over her 33-year career. With mom Naomi, she was one-half of the Judds, at one time the biggest-selling duo in country music.
Between 1983 and 1991, the Judds landed 14 No. 1 country hits.
Wynonna struck out on her own in 1991. She appeared on
“Dancing With the Stars” in 2013.
For her part, Ford was among the first to prove that a woman could rock just as hard as the boys.
She came to prominence as a teen in the mid-’70s as lead guitarist in the all-girl band the Runaways alongside Joan Jett and Cherie Currie. Their song “Cherry Bomb” still bristles with punk attitude after all these years.
Later in the ’80s, Ford scored solo hits with “Kiss Me Deadly” and the power ballad “Close My Eyes Forever,” her duet with Ozzy Osbourne (which was featured more than a few times during the couple-skate time at J&J Skateland).
Other newly announced shows include:
Dec. 30 — Richie Lee & the Fabulous ’50s at 7 p.m.
Dec. 31 — Comedian Michael Palascak at 5 and 9 p.m. (both shows feature a buffet dinner an hour before)
Feb. 10 — The Fab Four: The Ultimate Tribute with Ed Sullivan at 8 p.m.
March 10 — One Night of Queen Performed by Gary Mullen and The Works at 7:30 p.m.
