Jefferson home to two of Iowa’s top places to work

For a second time, the Greene County Medical Center has been tapped to join the ranks of the Des Moines Register’s Top 150 Iowa Workplaces, but it isn’t alone this year — Home State Bank in Jefferson made the list as well for the first time.

The announcements were made at a special luncheon in Des Moines and then followed with a special section in the Des Moines Sunday Register on Sept. 18.

The selections were based on employee surveys administered earlier this year by WorkplaceDynamics.

The Register divided its top 150 places to work into three categories: small, mid-sized and large.

Home State debuted on this year’s list by being ranked as the seventh-highest rated small company in Iowa.

“It makes me very proud, and it is my honor and privilege to be a part of a culture and workplace environment where employees enjoy one another and rely on each other for success, while at the same time find joy in serving our customers,” Sid Jones, president and CEO of Home State Bank, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Greene County Medical Center was ranked 38th out of 75 in the mid-sized company category.

“As one of the county’s largest employers, surveys like the Top Workplace survey, as well as one done in conjunction with UnityPoint Health, help the medical center create and maintain an environment where employees want to work here and our community wants to receive care here,”  Human Resources Director Kristan Lawless said in a statement.

Iowa companies with at least 35 employees are eligible for the award.
