Through bribery, Jefferson’s Bob Carman managed to get hold of a camera while imprisoned in Germany during World War II with the men of a Jefferson National Guard unit captured en masse in North Africa. This month marks the 70th anniversary of their emancipation after more than two years as POWs. Carman died in 1989, but the unique images he captured survive. We present here a selection of the seldom-seen snapshots.
