Early school bond voting underway

Staff report
It’s on.

The Greene County Auditor’s Office on Wednesday announced that early voting for the Sept. 13 special school election will get underway today.

Voters will be able to cast an absentee ballot at the auditor’s office, located on the second floor of the Greene County courthouse, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Greene County Community School District is hoping to pass a $19.4 million bond issue that will reduce the district’s footprint from five buildings to two.

The pro-bond, volunteer Pay It Forward Committee has hoped to convey that the century-old middle and intermediate schools, in particular, are no longer fit to educate the county’s children.

Voters a year ago shot down a similar, $20 million bond proposal.

Also on the ballot, voters will have to choose between Mike Dennhardt and Jonathon Hinote for the Greene County school board.

Dennhardt has been serving on the board since his appointment to fill a vacancy.
