Christie to campaign in Jefferson on Friday

Just before Halloween, Greene County’s representative in Des Moines, state Rep. Chip Baltimore, R-Boone, threw his support behind New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for president.

Christie will now find his way to Greene County on Friday for a meet and greet at the Uptown Cafe, 108 W. State St., in Jefferson.

The event begins at 1:30 p.m. Doors open at 1.

The 53-year-old Jersey governor is a household name in politics right now, but Republicans clearly don’t think he’s up to the job of being president — a Quinnipiac University poll of Iowa Republicans on Nov. 24 found Christie with just 2 percent support.

A new poll Wednesday found Christie with 2 percent support nationally as well.

Donald Trump is still the Republican frontrunner in Iowa (and nationally) with 25 percent support. Sen. Ted Cruz, of Texas, has surged into second place in Iowa with 23 percent support.

The Iowa caucuses are now less than two months away on Feb. 1.
