Baseball: Stalder named to Class 3A all-state, second team by IHBCA
Staff report
Greene County’s Bryce Stalder made the most of his final season on the diamond.
The future Grand View athlete was named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state second team last week. Stalder was one of the top hitters in Class 3A this summer. The senior led the Heart of Iowa Conference with an impressive .476 batting average, which was the 14th-best mark in the state due in large part to a team-best 30 hits.
Stalder’s .560 on base percentage also was tops in the HOIC, aided by just 15 strikeouts in 63 at-bats.
The shortstop and part-time staff ace collected 10 extra base hits, including six doubles and four triples.
Stalder was quite successful on the bump this past season, striking out 57 batters in 43 innings. He tallied a 3.55 ERA to go with a 1.52 WHIP, bolstered by an opponent’s batting average of .261.
Greene County finished the year 8-15 overall to go with a 5-8 mark in the Heart of Iowa Conference. The Rams shutout Panorama, 7-0 in their Class 2A district-opener before losing to eventual state champion, Van Meter, 7-0.
The Class 3A, all-state second team also included Roland-Story’s Alex Berends as well as Kuemper Catholic’s Logan Sibenellar, Clarinda’s Tayden Brown, Red Oak’s Landon Couse and Underwood’s Jack Vanfossan. State champion Van Meter snagged three first-teamers, highlighted by 3A captain Reese Moore.
Van Meter defeated Estherville-Lincoln Central in the state championship, 10-0 in Carroll.
